Markers

Available sized for both single or double (or "companion") memorials, grave markers - including ledgers -- are designed to lie flat or slightly above ground, at lawn level. Typical individual marker size is 24" wide x 12" deep x 4" thick (minimum) but can be larger depending on specific cemetery rules regarding allowable sizes and whether the marker is for an individual or is a double, or companion, marker. Sides commonly have a rough, rocky texture ("rock pitch"); smoothly cut sides are also common, and are appropriate when a marker is to be set straight at lawn level (i.e. not set a few inches above ground).

Flat Markers

More than just a listing of names and dates, markers afford an opportunity to add art and text / inscriptions to offer a glimpse of the person being memorialized.

Bevel Markers

Beyond flat markers, "bevel" markers - also called "Pillow Marker" or "Hickey" - have a slight slant from back to front (6" down to 4") but provides the same engravable area as a standard flat marker. Can be set directly on the ground or paired with a base.

Ledgers

Ledgers, like flat markers, are designed to lie flat on the ground, and can be recessed into the ground (so that the surface of the ledger is even with the surface of the ground) or can be set in a raised position so that all or part of the vertical edge (usually 4" to 6") is visible. 3' width x 7' length is a common size for a "full ledger" and covers most of an entire individual plot; "half ledgers" are smaller. Ledgers usually mark a single grave, but can be combined with other ledgers in multi-plot areas. Read more...

Both full and half ledgers are versatile and are able to be modified and added to for an enhanced design and look, including adding a vertical headstone (normally a bevel or slant marker placed at the head of the ledger), and the inclusion of bronze elements, namely cast bronze vases set in the center at the top of a ledger (above names, dates and other inscriptions) and stately bronze plaques, porcelain cameo photos and large-size laser etchings. We design the engraved artwork and text to tastefully combine with any added elements (such as bronze or porcelain cameo photos) to best honor someone and share insight into his or her life. Given the large surface area available for design of the memorial, ledgers can accommodate a large amount of engraved text, images, photos and bronze elements, all of which can make a headstone, tombstone, or monument unique and personal.
